James Toney makes his MMA debut against Randy Couture looking to prove that boxing is superior to mixed martial arts at UFC 118 on August 28.
James Toney is pretty confident in the interview. He doesn’t think Couture can hurt him, but he sort of ignores the whole possibility of a submission and needing to control the fight if it goes to a decision.
He is right to say that all he needs is one strike to put an end to the fight, but Couture is pretty good at not letting people wind up and hit him with everything.
The UFC odds on James Toney winning are pretty poor. He pays +400, but at that price and with his power he might just be worth an small investment.
Fighters: James Toney, Randy Couture

UFC 118 wasn’t nearly as good as UFC 117 but it was still good enough. We had major fights such as BJ Penn against Frankie Edgar for the LW championship which was all good. I thought the BJ penn fight was a bit boring, doesn’t feel like its the same BJ penn as we have seen before. Randy Couture did a really good job with his singleleg wresling skills.
Boy what a single leg takedown from Randy Couture. Smart move to not just stand and bang but acctually take James Toney down almonst immediately. BJ Penn didnt look as sharp as has before, but he is still a very good fighter. UFC 118 was all and all a mediocre event.
UFC 118 didn’t stand a chance of outdoing UFC 117. That was one of the best cards ever and it delivered.
Funny thing is, Couture was asked how he would go after a boxer if the boxer didn’t learn any real MMA and he answered that he would go after the lead leg first and get the take down from there.
